Set correctly, it becomes one of the most profitable levers on a business profile.<\/p>\n<h2>The area you declare is a promise<\/h2>\n<p>A visitor who finds you in their town assumes that you travel there. If they discover on the phone that you do not, or only for a fee they have never heard of, you have lost two things: the job, and the trust they had already given you.<\/p>\n<p>The natural reflex \u2014 ticking as many towns as possible in order to appear everywhere \u2014 therefore produces the opposite of the intended effect. It fills your phone with unqualified enquiries and drains your business profile of its credibility.<\/p>\n<h2>Define your area in three circles<\/h2>\n<p>The simplest method is to think in circles, starting from your real point of departure \u2014 your workshop, your depot, your business address.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The core.<\/strong> The municipalities you travel to without a second thought, with no surcharge, even for a small job. This is where your lead times must be unbeatable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The outer ring.<\/strong> The municipalities you are happy to travel to, but above a certain amount or with a call-out fee. Ask yourself how <em>you<\/em> would search for your own service, and place yourself at that level.<\/p>\n<h2>Lead time counts as much as distance<\/h2>\n<p>For an urgent job, the client does not compare kilometres: they compare lead times. \u201cOn site within 24 h\u201d, \u201csame-day breakdown service on weekdays\u201d, \u201cquote within 48 h\u201d: these statements do more for your response rate than a list of thirty municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>And they protect you. A stated lead time is an enforceable lead time: the client calling for \u201cright now\u201d already knows that this is not what you sell.<\/p>\n<h2>Adapt your area to the season and to your workload<\/h2>\n<p>A service area is not set in stone. In a quiet period, widen the ring: a longer journey is still more profitable than an empty day. At full capacity, tighten it back to the core: you protect your lead times, and so your reviews, and so your next clients.<\/p>\n<p>Few professionals make this adjustment, because it has to be thought of. That is precisely why it is an advantage.<\/p>\n<h2>In summary<\/h2>\n<p>Your service area is not a commercial ambition, it is a description of reality. Three circles, a level of attachment that matches the way people search for you, a clearly stated lead time, and an adjustment according to the season.
